Tips For Cleaning and Caring For Your Carpet
The best way to ensure your carpet upholds its structure and appearance is to properly and regularly maintain it. Routine cleaning and upkeep is typically required to maintain manufacturer warranties, and we have some best practices that we recommend in order to keep your carpet as good as new!
Refer to Your Manufacturer’s Instructions
Above all else, you should refer to the directions that your carpet’s manufacturer provides to see what procedures and cleaning products are and aren’t recommended. Certain cleaning agents can permanently damage you carpet’s fibers and void your warranty. Softer carpets like the Tigressa Cherish require vacuums with certain specifications to be used so that the fibers aren’t harmed.
Vacuuming will remove any loose dirt in your carpet. If this dirt isn’t cleaned regularly, it can be worked into the fibers by frequent foot traffic. All carpets should be vacuumed no less than once a week, although twice a week is recommended for heavy traffic areas.
Wipe up any spills immediately. Even the most stain-resistant carpets aren’t completely immune to staining. Use a damp towel or sponge and blot the spill, don’t scrub. Scrubbing can work the stain into the carpet and damage the fibers. Try to use a white cloth to clean up spills, as dyes can bleed through and stain the fibers as well.
The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends carpets should be professionally deep-cleaned every 12 to 18 months. There are different deep-cleaning methods, with the most popular one being hot water extraction, also referred to as steam cleaning. Refer to your manufacturer’s specifications to see how often and which methods you should use when having your carpet deep-cleaned.
